Ransomware and extortion hacks are now one of the most common forms of cybercrime generating billions in revenues for international criminals. Gangs are well organised, well-funded and well protected. Very few are ever prosecuted. In this session, leading experts from DLA Piper and SRM-inform will join forces to take us through the technical side of how such attacks are typically executed, how to successfully navigate through them, and the key decisions victims need to make.

• The types of vulnerabilities that are exploited and how attackers inflict maximum damage.
• The dos and don’ts when conducting your internal investigation, and how to manage key stakeholders including affected individuals, staff, the media, insurers and your regulators.
• Should you ever pay a ransom? How can you pay ransoms given that most banks block their accounts? Can you claim ransoms back from your insurers? Should you seek help from law enforcement? Where can you gather intelligence on your attacker?
