Ukraine at the crossroads: The future of Europe’s security | SASIG

Tuesday 28 January, 11am-12noon (GMT)

It’s been almost three years since Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine, leading us to reflect on a brutal conflict with ramifications reaching beyond Europe. War is terrible, no more so than for the millions of Ukrainians who continue to thwart Putin’s malign attempts to further Russian nationalist ambition. And things have not gone all Putin’s way – his forces have seized territory at extraordinary human cost; he has lost Russian sovereign territory for the first time since World War II; and the distraction of the war in Ukraine may arguably have contributed to the Assad regime’s rapid collapse, which could prove a major strategic blunder for Russia.

But recent events will also cause concern for Kyiv. Trump’s election casts a shadow over future US military support. Questions remain over the West’s continued commitment to Ukraine and indeed our appetite to confront Russian aggression, with potentially catastrophic consequences for Europe’s security.

Join our expert panel on Tuesday 28 January to discuss the future of the war in Ukraine and what it means for our security.
