More than 90% of all global digital communications and financial transactions are transmitted by undersea cables every day.
There are more than 450 active cables worldwide, covering 1.8 million kilometres (over a million miles). Undersea cables and vital infrastructure rest on and below the seabed all around the globe and are essential to our modern way of living.
However, these unseen networks are mostly out of sight and out of mind, meaning few people recognise our reliance on the cables and pipelines through which data, energy, and money flow.
We discussed how we respond to the growing threats to undersea networks; vital for everyday life for all of us, and the economies which they directly support.
