With nearly 50 years’ experience in the security and crime prevention industries, Martin Smith is a well-known, colourful and highly respected personality in the cybersecurity world. He has always been passionate about delivering effective and long-lasting change within the security industry and to this end, he founded The Security Awareness Special Interest Group (SASIG) in 2004 as a subscription-free networking forum for cybersecurity practitioners. It now has more than 11,300 members representing 4,500+ organisations from both the public and private sectors and runs an event of one sort or another on every working day of the year.

We were delighted that Martin agreed to present “A selection of topical stories and captivating miscellany”, some hilarious and some not so much so. It was an engaging account of his life, including:

  • The day he met Queen Elizabeth II
  • The day he nearly started World War III
  • The time he was defrauded of all his money by an international confidence trickster
  • His three near-death experiences in as many weeks, when he was almost killed by trains, planes and automobiles
  • His ten most useful tips for surviving in an increasingly hectic and stressful world
