As anyone who has suffered a breach will testify, speed is of the essence when you need to minimise the consequences and reassert control. Easier said than done.

When a breach happens, it can be ‘panic stations’ as we try to understand the extent and impact. And when we are under pressure and most sensitive to the cost of every decision we make, a delay in our response is often inevitable. It need not be.
