In February 2011, a website hit the dark web that rocked the internet. The Silk Road was the first modern darknet black market. Running on the un-trackable Tor network, the Silk Road was an online marketplace allowing customers to purchase drugs and have them delivered directly to their front door.

Over the short time the Silk Road was active, billions of dollars in anonymous cryptocurrency changed hands, but who was behind it? Who was the mastermind known only as ‘Dread Pirate Roberts’?

Watch as we examine the rise of the most infamous online illegal drugs marketplace, what the founder (somewhat hypocritically) claimed they wanted to achieve, and how an empire fell just two years after its creation due to basic operational security errors.
