Ransomware has dominated the cyber conversation over the last few years, but the issue with supply chains is likely to supplant it as the key challenge facing most organisations. We have already experienced the devastating impact of supply chain disruption caused by the pandemic. The pandemic highlighted our economic dependency on complex and often fragile supply chains that are vulnerable to disruption and nowhere near as robust as we had assumed. The risk posed by supply chains is also evident in cyberspace where our reliance on third parties and our accelerated journey to digitalisation have exposed vulnerabilities enthusiastically exploited by bad actors. The disruptive impact of ransomware attacks on physical supply chains (Colonial Pipeline) or the consequences of a compromised SaaS product (SolarWinds) demonstrates how much we are vulnerable to this phenomenon.

We explored the implications of supply chains on our businesses, our dependency on them, the threat within them and the steps we can take to make ourselves and our suppliers more resilient.
