We were delighted to host our annual Legal SASIG seminar with DLA Piper this year, focusing on obligation and regulation. Specifically, what is evolving in the regulatory space, what are regulators concentrating on, and what standards will businesses be obligated to meet? Regulation is a part of our commercial life, particularly for those businesses comprising our critical national infrastructure. The penalties for failing to comply are likely to get more challenging, as we already see in the US. This emphasises that managing data securely is not simply the responsibility of the CISO, but of the whole of an organisation’s leadership.

Getting an organisation’s governance right is critical to avoid legal penalties. It is also an intrinsic part of an organisation’s strategy to achieve resilience. This will likely increase in importance as new technologies, such as AI, are rolled out and we adapt to their impact. We heard from regulators, lawyers, and experts on information security, where regulation is going, and the basic steps we need to take to meet our compliance obligations.

We were kindly hosted by Bird & Bird for our 2022 Legal SASIG event – you can download a write-up about this event here.
