Andy is an acknowledged expert in cryptography, IS security, systems engineering, information forensics and cybersecurity. He has worked in the field of computer and information systems security and cryptology since 1984 and is a Founding Trustee and Director of the National Museum of Computing on the Bletchley Park Estate, as well as a Visiting Professor at the Information Security Group, Royal Holloway University of London.
For this evening, Andy explains how he really became an engineer through a convoluted set of connections and good fortune. We will probably visit topics including the old world of the “Eagle” comic, find out why Admiral of the Fleet Sir Cloudesley Shovell was the inspiration for GPS, dive under the murky waters of pirate radio, discover why his friend Tony Sale commissioned the building of a plastic van during World War Two and consider whether or not any information system will ever be secure when there is human interaction involved.
