Over the last decade, phishing – a type of social engineering attack – has transformed from generic and similar to spam into the threat most likely to cause a breach. During that same period, the number of adults on social media platforms such as Facebook has increased by almost 1,300%.

See the correlation?

Every photo we post, status we update, person we tag, and email we send reveals valuable information about our personal and professional lives. Hackers use this information to craft targeted – and effective – social engineering attacks at scale.

Based on interviews with ten hackers and results from a survey of 4,000 people, we explain how bad actors leverage publicly available information to breach companies… and what you can do about it.
