About this event...
OT is the use of computers to monitor or alter the physical state of a system, such as the control system for a power station or the control network for a rail system. It has sometimes been called “IT of the non-carpeted areas”. Whilst IT is data driven, OT is process driven. IT is dynamic, whereas OT systems are engineered for specific, measured, prescribed actions based on content and not context.
These two different worlds have evolved for different purposes. They have been focused on different parts of their enterprises and have followed different technologies to achieve their own desired outcomes. Typically, these differences have led to the development of different departments within an organisation, each with their own culture and siloed view of the world.
