Drone warfare has never been so accessible, yet its adoption presents many challenges.

Uncrewed systems have been used in warfare from the early 20th Century; however, there has been a boom in recent years in easily accessible consumer electronics, and a proliferation in the use of artificial intelligence.  From ISIS, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Russo-Ukrainian war, non-state actors and beyond, the technology and tactics of drones are changing the character of warfare.

We’ll chart the current trends in employment and deployment of drones in the land and near surface domain, and consider where drone warfare could lead in the near future.

How do we meet the challenges of adopting and countering drones? And what can we do to prepare ourselves, keep up, and stay relevant?
