The great debate: Is moving from security awareness training to human risk management an evolution? | SASIG

The cybersecurity industry has long acknowledged the importance of the human layer, but our efforts so far have, in all honesty, not meaningfully reduced the risk in this space. Why is this? And what should we be doing differently?

We want interventions that will change the specific behaviours that will truly reduce our vulnerabilities. But we also need to help security teams do more with less and measure improvements to what actually matters. Is human risk management a step forward in thinking, or is this just yet another rebranding of the old ways of doing things?

In this first in a series of focussed debates, SASIG will bring together prominent thought leaders Tim Ward and Oz Alashe. They will lay aside their daily commercial rivalries to discuss as friends and equals where traditional ‘awareness’ came from, why it hasn’t worked, their views on where the industry is headed, and what it means for us all – service providers, customers, and the industry alike.

How should human cyber risk be better managed, and can AI and intelligent systems unlock new possibilities?
