Space systems enable much of contemporary life on Earth – navigation, timing, communications, weather, finance – yet the infrastructure is as vulnerable as it is indispensable. We were delighted for the UK Space Agency to have joined us to share their role in confronting the risks: Congestion, debris, severe space weather, cyber compromise and interference, fragile supply chains, and regulatory issues. They connect space hazards to the UK’s critical national infrastructure and public safety, explained what is at stake if services fail, and defined behaviours that keep satellites available: Design for resilience, assured operations, transparent incident response and secure by design practices.
We looked at how it protects UK interests in and from space, sustains safe access to orbit and builds readiness for shocks, so people can continue to rely on space seamlessly. We consider its goal in ensuring that space, and access to space, remains accessible to our and future generations.
