Security awareness programmes frequently seem like the bastard child of security programmes. While awareness programmes exist, they tend to get the minimum budget and support required to run at a perceived acceptable level.
To correct this situation, awareness professionals need to understand that they are security professionals first and foremost. Their job is to reduce loss. While being a user champion sounds noble, that is not the job. It is also not mutually exclusive of reducing loss.
This presentation combines a variety of topics related to the security awareness profession, including metrics, security programme structure and awareness goals. We also discuss how to take a bigger role in the security programme and why you deserve more for your efforts.
