Ian Dyson QPM has served as Commissioner of the City of London Police since 2016, heading up the country’s lead force fighting economic fraud and cyber-crime nationwide and globally, including Action Fraud. In August 2020 he also became the National Lead for Cyber Crime on the National Police Chiefs’ Council. He brings a wealth of operational experience and strategic skills to the ever-greater challenges, not just on the streets of London, but online and from around the globe.
As well as its national role in fighting economic crime, the City of London Police plays a strong part in anti-terrorism and community-policing because of the Square Mile’s global position as a hub for international business, the high-profile events it hosts, and its many visitors, workers and residents.
Ian has a unique perspective of the challenges of policing in the 21st Century, with a foot in each of the physical world and cyberspace. As Commissioner of a major police force, he is responsible for maintaining law and order in the community and for implementing Government guidelines to combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus. As National Lead on the NPCC for Cyber Crime, and with his responsibility for Action Fraud, he also has a view of the global trends in cybercrime and how these are changing.
