The consideration of ethics in developing technology | SASIG

Monday 26 October, 2pm-3pm (BST)

In our haste to develop and adopt new technology, we tend to focus on the immediate benefits without considering the unintended consequences. Criminals have access to nation-state capability to help extort money. Unscrupulous individuals use social media to spread extremist views, identify their next victims or simply play havoc with our electoral system. The exponential increase in data, with its implications for our security and well-being, and threatening the very concept of privacy, has raised concerns around its collection and exploitation. We explore if technology can be developed with ethics in mind, and if so, how?
