Plans, policies and procedures are important, but they are nothing without a focus on the people caught up in a crisis. Amanda Coleman gives her perspective on how to develop effective crisis communication by building in humanity and empathy. She looks at how to transform plans so people remain at the centre of communication – before, during and after a crisis.

Amanda has more than 20 years’ experience managing crises. In 2017, she led the law enforcement communication response to the Manchester Arena terrorist attack. She has worked as a journalist and is the author of Crisis Communication Strategies, published in May 2020.

Amanda is a Chartered PR Practitioner and a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and the Public Relations and Communication Association. She is an advisor for the Resilience Advisors Network and a senior associate of the Centre for Crisis and Risk Communication. She is an international speaker on crisis communication. Her blog can be found here.
