Comments ranged from “It’s amazing how quickly we have switched to remote working. We couldn’t have done this ten years ago” to “Many companies are not geared up for remote working, I think this will mean people have to revisit their business continuity plans. Nobody assumed an issue where people could not travel on a global basis.”

Other points mentioned by delegates:

  • Social media selfies have increased exposure of sensitive information.
  • Not everyone works more productively from home: some do, some do not. It requires a particular mindset, productive habits, and the ability to interact with others positively, so they don’t feel isolated. Managers also need to learn to manage by outcomes and deliverables and not just seeing people who look like they are working… Skills to be learned and practised and supportive technology that only works to enable it.
  • Illustrates the need for a clean desk policy even at home!
  • How many users now working from home have never changed their router password since their ISP first issued it?
  • One additional comment is the possible increased insider risk, with staff feeling less part of the team and more disconnected from an organisation.

“Using 365 we now flag some red warning text saying ‘check this email carefully’ when keywords get used in the subject. Just done yesterday so time will tell if this increases support calls.”
