Thursday 8 April, 11am-12noon (BST)

Anonymisation is the process by which information that could identify or be linked to individuals is removed or supressed in large data sets so the research value of the data is not lost.

The accrual and exploitation of data is critical to many areas of research. The UK’s genomics programme, for example, has been critical in the fight against Covid-19.

Dr Charles Kriel, Tarquin Folliss OBE, Annick O’Brien and Robert Ezzell discuss:

  • How does the process of anonymisation work?
  • How much can we trust it?
  • Is the process effective in protecting the identities of individuals?
  • How strictly enforced is the requirement for anonymisation enforced globally?
  • How often do we believe our data has been anonymised when it has not?
