Anonymisation is the process by which information that could identify or be linked to individuals is removed or supressed in large data sets so the research value of the data is not lost.

The accrual and exploitation of data is critical to many areas of research. The UK’s genomics programme, for example, has been critical in the fight against Covid-19.
