Backups and recoveries began when we were dealing with just MBs and GBs of data – back in the dinosaur era of the IT industry. Today, we’re in the robotics era. Data is king, and backups need to manage TBs across digital platforms that deliver 24 x 7 accessibility.

And what has happened to recovery?

The industry average for recovering from a ransomware attack is 17 days. How long would it take you? Is that with or without readily available backups?

In the dinosaur era, recovery was non-time sensitive and confined to disaster recovery tests or that once-in-a-lifetime physical disaster (think fires, floods, and collapsing buildings).

In today’s robotics era, time-sensitive recovery is essential to counter cyber incidents and is fast becoming a critical element of cyber resilience.

When it comes to growth, we focus our attention on data creation, value, exploitation and breaches, but when it comes to architecture, we still build for holding limited backups.

We outline why (and how) we should deliver real-time, time-sensitive, active data protection and instant recovery without the barriers that backups and recovery incur today – including the backups themselves.
