The Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) space is unique and constantly evolving. More than just driverless cars, it is an ecosystem of interconnected industries across many sectors, covering all forms of transport (road, rail and air) and a range of associated infrastructures, up to and including smart cities.

Manufacturers are driving software innovation in the four ACES (Autonomous, Connected, Electric, Shared) systems and introducing a host of improvements to performance, safety, quality, security and driver engagement through complex interconnected hardware and software systems. However, while CAVs have improved significantly, they are now increasingly vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Recent UN regulations (such as UNECE WP29) have also fundamentally changed cybersecurity requirements for CAVs. Manufacturers now need to show evidence of sufficient cyber-risk management practices end to end (from design to post-production). Cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important to purchasing decisions.

The combination of huge amounts of new code, large supply chains and new cybersecurity legal regulations are forcing CISOs, their teams and VSOCs to operate in new ways to prevent, detect and respond to cyber threats.  But do C-Suites fully appreciate the threats of regulatory fines, consumer litigation and brand damage from cyber-attacks? Are manufacturers mitigating the risk with reliable and actionable threat intelligence? Are they investing in the right tools to defend against those threats?
