After 25 years as a CEO in the technology sector working on security projects, the speaker sees urgent need for a movement to end current inertia. New AI based threats make the case stronger still. This focused session draws from the book currently in progress, Cyber First, Security Above All. Two core themes drive the discussion.

First, cybersecurity must rise from technical cost centre to foundational strategic priority. CEOs and boards can no longer treat it as an IT or finance matter left to underpowered CISOs. In a landscape shaped by frontier AI, supply chain contagion and state level actors, security is the non negotiable condition for growth, resilience and survival. It must become the primary filter on every material decision. Second, market forces and commercial incentives, not fear or regulation alone, will drive real change.

Sales and Marketing should lead because best practice security lifts win rates, trust and differentiation, just as ISO 9001 did for quality in the 1990s.Organisations that treat security as a revenue asset will thrive. Those that see it as overhead will lose.
